GSM to field candidate against Parsekar

Goa Suraksha Manch would field a candidate against Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar in his Mandrem constituency, the newly-formed party said on Monday. “We have organisational structure in 35 constituencies. We have a good hold in 17 constituencies where we can comfortably win. Among these 17 constituencies are Mandrem, represented by Chief Minister Parsekar, and Panaji, the bastion of Union Minister Manohar Parrikar,” GSM president Anand Shirodkar said here.

Shirodkar, a close aide of rebel RSS leader Subhash Velingkar, was speaking to PTI in his first interview after taking charge of the party on Sunday.

Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch, which is agitating in Goa over the issue of medium of instruction in schools, has floated GSM.

He said the party was yet to decide the candidate against Parsekar. “We are waiting and watching the political combinations. We have to see what BJP is doing, whether they are going with MGP. Also we need to see whether Congress and other parties form alliances for the polls,” he said.
