Grand goof-up? Candidate with 75 % in top ten at SRCC

Whether it’s a case of carelessness on the part of college officials or malfunction in the admission system itself, the prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) has declared the final list for Commerce (Honours) undergraduate course with egg on its face.

College officials are at their wits’ end to explain how an applicant with just 75 per cent marks in best of four subjects made it to the top ten of the merit list of 387 students issued by the college.

Divyanshu Saxena, who had scored 67.8 per cent marks in CBSE class XII
examination has been listed among the top ten in the college admission list. Bearing bar code number 13137348, issued by the college, the SRCC list shows Divyanshu with 99.0 per cent marks and placed at number eight, eight notches above CBSE topper Paras Sharma.

SRCC had announced cut-off marks of 97 per cent for admission in Commerce (Honours), but the question arises how this student got in among the top ten in the college admission list of SRCC. When asked for an opinion,
Divyanshu said: ‘I had applied both online and offline. I had filled the same numbers that I had scored in CBSE exams. The appearance of my name in the list is also a big surprise to me.’ The CBSE roll number of the Divyanshu is 9198223.

When contacted, college principal PC Jain told this reporter that he could not explain the matter over a phone call and would be able to give his views only after examining the matter further.
