Govt to set up ITIs, SDCs in 34 Left Wing Extremism districts, says Sai

The government has formulated a scheme to set up Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and Skill Development Centres (SDCs) in 34 Left Wing Extremism affected districts of the country. Minister of state for labour and employment Vishnu Deo Sai in a written reply in Lok Sabha today said the government has also decided to set up eight Regional Vocational Training Institutes (RVTIs) with hostel facilities. ‘Directorate General of Employment and Training (DGE&T) under ministry of labour and employment has formulated a scheme ‘Skill Development in 34 districts affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE)' to set up 34 ITIs and 68 SDCs in 34 districts affected by LWE,’ Sai said on Monday. He said the cost of the scheme is Rs 241.65 crore. The eight RVTIs with hostel facilities would be set up in Punjab, Bihar, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir. ‘Training activities is targeted to start by August 2015 in rental premises and the institutes would be made fully functional by March 2017 in their own campus. An outlay of Rs 160 crore has been kept in the 12th Plan,’ Sai said, adding that the government does not have any plan to set up RVTIs and SDCs in PPP mode including Ettumanoor of Kerela.
