Govt to para-drop CVO at AIIMS

The Union Health Ministry has decided to do away with post of Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). While replying to a question in Rajya Sabha, Union Health Minister JP Nadda said, “There is no independent post of CVO in AIIMS. The charge of CVO of the premier institute has been assigned to Joint Secretary.”

AIIMS used to appoint a CVO from the list of officials posted at the premier institute. The ousted CVO Sanjeev Chaturvedi, who was holding the additional charge of CVO AIIMS, was posted at AIIMS in the capacity of deputy secretary. “With the reply of Nadda to the House, it is clear that the ministry will appoint CVO of their own choice from the ministry itself, instead of AIIMS, which is not in the best interest of the institute,” a health official said. “Given the fact that a official of joint secretary level are loaded with lots of work at ministry itself, in this condition, how will he be able to justify his CVO AIIMS role,” he added. Notably, the health ministry has given the charge of CVO of the premier institute for three months to Manoj Jhalani, joint secretary at the ministry.
