Govt suspends Tomar hours after arrest

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Deputy Commissioner (Industries) RS Tomar for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 1 crore and accepting Rs 10 lakh as its first installment for certification of an executive committee of a society.

Tomar, who is also the Registrar of Firms and Societies in the Government of NCT of Delhi (GNCTD), had allegedly demanded the bribe from the president of the society, which has a huge land bank and substantial deposits in the bank, the CBI claimed.

Tomar is alleged to have initially demanded Rs 80 lakh as bribe, which was later increased to Rs 1 crore, CBI claimed.

The complainant, however, informed CBI’s anti-corruption branch, which laid a trap and caught Tomar red-handed. Searches were carried out at Tomar’s office and residence, sources said, adding that the CBI had recovered nearly Rs 5 lakh in cash from his home.

Meanwhile, hours after his arrest by the CBI, the Delhi government has suspended Tomar.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the officer has been suspended immediately from his post.
“The officer arrested by CBI has been suspended immediately,” Sisodia tweeted.
