Govt may make CCTVs, glass doors must in Mumbai lifts

The state government is considering to make it mandatory for all elevators in multi-storey building across Mumbai to have glass doors and CCTV cameras.

The Opposition said in the last few months, many cases of people getting stuck inside lifts have come to light. It questioned if the elevators were being inspected as several posts of inspecting staff were vacant.

Maharashtra Public Works minister Chandrakant Patil said of the 35,683 lifts in Mumbai, 32,493 have been inspected by his department till February.
