Govt issues 588 learners’ licence at Trade Fair

The Delhi government has issued over 500 learners’ licence during recently concluded Trade Fair 2015 with its Transport department stall receiving an enormous response from the visitors.

According to the Transport department, as many as 864 people had applied for driving licence during the 14-day-long Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan held last month and 588 learning licences have been issued, while 276 applicants failed to get the same.

The Arvind Kejriwal government had provided a facility to visitors to get learners’ licence issued in their names this time at the stall of the Transport Department at Delhi Pavilion.

A senior government official said that the department had received such good response from the visitors that it had to stop issuing licence for a while due to huge numbers of applicants during the Trade Fair.

“We issued 588 learner licence for driving vehicles, while 276 people failed to pass the written test. During the Trade Fair, 864 people, who visited the transport department’s stall, had applied for the same,” the official said.

At the department’s stall, Car-Free Day and other initiatives that have been taken by the transport department, were put on exhibition at the Delhi Pavilion this year.

On 22nd of every month, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government organises ‘Car-Free Day’ on different stretches to encourage the public not to use their cars for at least one day. On November 22, the Chief Minister had announced that his government would organise ‘Car-Free Day’ across the national capital on January 22 next year, saying he will also cycle to his office that day.
