Govt hospital medicine supply racket busted

Five people, including a government hospital employee, were arrested for illegally supplying government hospital medicines, police said on Thursday. Drugs worth more than Rs 12 lakh were seized and five persons involved in the case were arrested.

Neeraj Kumar, Sachin Gupta, Hari Shankar, Hari Nath and Ram Vir Singh were arrested from their hideouts in Delhi on 14 and 15 January.  According to the officials, the Special Investigation Team received information that Neeraj and Sachin were running a  drug racket in Delhi.

‘On 14 January, a trap was laid near Nala, at Sector 24, Rohini where Neeraj and Sachin were apprehended, along with the  drugs. A case under relevant section of the Indian Penal Code was registered,’ said a police official.

During interrogation, it was learnt that Neeraj  and Sachin sold these drugs through Hari of Bhagirath Place in Delhi.

‘The accused have managed to supply spurious medicines worth more than Rs 50 lakh in Delhi and other states in the last three years,’ said a police official. ‘We are probing the matter,’ said SBS Tyagi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime and Railways.
