Govt considering amending laws on suicide, accidents

Several proposals to amend laws under CrPC and IPC, including those to decriminalise attempt to suicide and reforms to combat road accidents, are being considered by the government. MoS for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said the Law Commission has already submitted a report and recommended that attempt to suicide be decriminalised. “There are various proposals that are under consideration for amendment in the CrPC and the IPC. Some of the important proposals under its consideration include a proposal to decriminalise attempt to suicide by amending Section 309 IPC,” he told the Rajya Sabha.
