Govt checks feasibility of two elevated roads for smooth traffic flow

The city government had appointed a consultant for speedy completion of background work on the construction of two separate elevated roads to ease traffic congestion between the Mehrauli Bus Terminal and MB Road and Idgah to Neela Hauz. This was discussed in a meeting chaired by chief minister Sheila Dikshit a few days back.

The matter has been studied by the consultant and it has been recommended that the construction of an elevated road between Mehrauli Bus Terminal and MB Road involves widening the Devi Puruji Ashram road towards the south, from the bus terminus to Anuvart Marg in front of the Jain Mandir.
People travelling to Gurgaon from Mehrauli village would have to take a U-turn from a diversion in front of the police station on Anuvart Marg or at the junction of Anuvrat Marg, M B Road and Sri Aurobindo Marg.

The pre-feasible study has thrown up three possible routes for the proposed elevated road between Mehrauli bus terminal and M B Road. The first two routes link Mehrauli Terminal in the west to Anuvrat Marg  in the east at the edge of the Qutab heritage zone, cutting through the DDA Park.
While the first route directly links Mehrauli Terminal to Anuvrat Marg, the second one links Mehrauli Terminal to the Flower Sellers Road off Anuvrat Marg. These two routes are easier to construct and will not require acquisition of land from private owners.

According to the study report, the proposals envisage a road architecture/structural design merging with the heritage environment with minimum ecological impact. However, both the routes will require clearance from ASI,Forest Department as well as DDA.

The routes involve widening the existing the Dargah Road/Devi Puriji Ashram Road in the south and connecting to the Anuvrat Marg near the Qutab Metro Station. As far as, Idgah and Neela Hauz is concerned, route 4, recommends an 8 metre wide road which would run at grade along the edge of Mehrauli village settlement incorporating the existing road thereby widening it.
This would be an extention of Desu Road to Aruna Asaf Ali Marg. The Road segment on the widened part of Kishangarh road shall be  of 15 metre width.
