Government's skill centre to train craftsmen

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday said that the Delhi government is in the process of setting up of 'Green Field World Class Skill Centre' at Jonapur in collaboration with government of Singapore.

The government would also prepare trainees to meet the global market requirement by making them ‘master craftsman’.

Dikshit was speaking on the occasion after inaugurating a well laid out upgraded workshop for automobile sector in collaboration with TATA motors under Public Private Partnership(PPP) in this institute known as Industrial Training Institute, Jehangirpuri.

The details about providing the technical expertise was finalised during Dikshit's visit to Singapore in October last year.

Officials said the institute would be modelled on Institute of Technical Studies, Singapore.

Local MLA Davinder Yadav, Secretary TTE Lalmalsawma, Director DN Jha and a huge gathering were also present on this occasion.

Government sources said that, they are putting all out efforts to make every trainee skilled and self-reliant. Government has also taken several steps towards the skill development programme.

Dikshit said, 'All the countries of the world are facing the problem of youth unemployment and this has given birth to many social, political and economical problems. But even in this situation, country is moving ahead with a expected growth rate of 7-8% and infrastructure developed therein need vocationally trained manpower to meet the skill demand of industries which is expected to increase by 500 million by the year 2022 globally since India has got large number of young population in comparison to aged population of the European countries.'

The Chief Minister also said that in present scenario, the lower growth could result in fewer jobs openings and lower salary hike as the corporation held back the investment.
