Gour Banga varsity confers D.Litt to noted litterateurs

The University of Gour Banga on Thursday held its first convocation where honorary D.Litt was conferred on noted litterateur Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay and poet Subodh Sarkar.

The university, which was set up in 2008, also conferred honorary D.Sc degrees to scientists Prof Arun Kumar Sarma and Prof Sandip Kumar Chakravorty.

“Over seven years back, the University of Gour Banga was established to cater to the educational need of the three backward districts of West Bengal districts viz. Malda, Dakshin Dinajpur, & Uttar Dinajpur,” Chancellor Keshari Nath Tripathi, also the state Governor, said on the occasion.

Vice-chancellor Prof Gopal Chandra Mishra delivered the welcome address.
