Goons on motorcycles attack cops near Basirhat

Police personnel who were conducting a routine check up on the bikers on Taki road near Basirhat were attacked by goons. 

Policemen were checking if the bikers were riding their motorcycles without wearing helmets and were slapping fines on the offenders. When the police were carrying out the search, some miscreants came to the spot on motorcycles. When the police asked them why they were not wearing helmets, they attacked the police with sticks and iron rods. They also ransacked a police jeep which was standing by the side of the road. Policemen who were present at the spot were beaten up by those miscreants. The injured policemen were admitted to Basirhat Sub-Divisional hospital for treatment.

After being informed, the Inspector in charge of Basirhat police station rushed to the spot along with a huge contingent of force and brought the situation under control. Police have started a probe into the incident. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that some CPI(M) backed goons might have been involved behind the attack. Police believe that they were the local miscreants involved in various crime incidents.

The accuse were carrying iron rods. The accused had fled the spot before the huge contingent of police arrived. Police suspect that miscreants were going through the area and were caught as a checking was going on in that area. Police are conducting raids at various places of North 24 Parganas to nab the culprits.
