Records show that, till August this year, ten cases of theft were reported from the cargo unit which include two bikes, 44 mobile phones and computers parts worth Rs 60 lakh. The total value of stolen items is said to be in crores of rupees.

Surprisingly, only one person has been convicted  for theft in past two years at cargo unit. It was also revealed that most of the theft cases of previous two years are either untraced or under investigation.

According to the data, only 13 persons have been arrested so far by the police from 2012 to 31 August, 2014. The data also reveals that a total 27 theft incidents have been reported from cargo unit in past two years.

The maximum items which were stolen are mobile phones followed by memory cards, watches and others electronic items.

In the year 2012, a total nine incidents of theft were reported from cargo. While five cases were untraced, trial is still pending in two cases and investigation is pending in another two. In 2013, eight cases of theft were registered in cargo unit. While the investigation is still pending in six cases, two are still untraced.

In one particular case, on 26 July this year, 75 kg of memory card were stolen from airport cargo.
