Good Samaritan cabbie shot at for stopping eve-teasing

It might be seen as a simple case of arrest of two desperate criminals in Janakpuri but the story also has a Good Samaritan taxi driver who was shot at by these goons when he tried to save a girl from being eve-teased. The brave and courageous effort of the taxi driver later resulted in the arrest of the accused.

The incident happened on December 19 at around 10.30 pm near Pankha Road in West Delhi  when Sanjay (Taxi driver) was returning from Rohini to Rajokri in Delhi. He suddenly saw a man misbehaving with a girl at the stretch. Sanjay quickly got down and intervened and saved the girl. Some more men gathered seeing the chaos. Seeing himself overpowered, the accused ran and got a pistol from one of his friend who was waiting on the other side of the road along with three others.

Seeing the pistol, the crowd which has started gathering started running for cover. The accused fired at the crowd  but missed. He again fired and this time his aim was Sanjay, the taxi driver who resisted his attempts of eve-teasing a girl.

The bullet hit Sanjay and the accused men who were four in number ran. After they fled the spot, Sanjay was taken to the hospital. A case of attempt to murder under Section 354 of the IPC was registered.

Later, the Delhi Police arrested the two accused Anshu Gupta and Ramesh, both residents of Uttamnagar, who turned out to be history-sheeters and had several cases of robbery, theft and attempt to murders registered against them. Both Anshu and Ramesh are working in a tent house and have association with criminals.
