Golf our common language: Chawrasia on Asian team

“Golf is our common language and food an interest with all of us,” says SSP Chawrasia, who is playing an International team for the first time in his career. Enjoying every minute of the second EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM at the Glenmarie Golf and Country, Chawrasia, three-time winner on Asian Tour, is also looking forward to sampling the ‘winning flavour’ in a team event.

Six different nationalities with different languages and food habits make up for the Asian team, but each member seems to enjoying it.

“Having playing on Asian Tour and European Tour for so many years, language has never been a problem as far as communication is concerned. Everybody in the team room understands some English and then there are people to translate also. In the end we need to understand each other on a golf course,” says a confident Chawrasia, who has been to Malaysia many times before, so he knows all about the weather, food and golf courses.

Kolkata-born Chawrasia, who also admits to great fondness for ‘sushi’ is partial to Japanese food, but is enjoying the variety of Chinese, Malay, Thai and Korean food in the team dining room. “I have tried all that and am going to do that again,” he said. The mention of Korean food perked up his teammate Korea’s Byeong Hung An, World No. 29 and the recently crowned European Tour Rookie of 2016.
