Gold, cocaine seized at NSCBI airport, two passengers arrested

Altogether 800 gms of gold and 1.2 kg of cocaine were on Wednesday seized from two passengers at the NSC Bose International airport here in two separate cases and both of them were arrested.

Customs officials at the airport said 800 gms of gold bars valued at Rs 20.67 lakh were recovered from Md Salahuddin, of Gaya, after officials of the air intelligence wing intercepted him on his arrival here from Bangkok by a SpiceJet flight.

The passenger kept the yellow metal bars concealed in his person. He was arrested and produced in a court.

In another case, acting on a tip off, the officials at the airport on Wednesday intercepted an Ukrainian national Natalia Abrelenko with 1.2 kg cocaine wrapped like chocolate.

She was carrying the consignment from Sao Paolo and landed here by an Etihad flight from Abu Dhabi. The consignment was meant for Delhi.

The woman, who was scheduled to fly to Mumbai from Kolkata and catch another flight for Istanbul from Mumbai, would be produced before the Barasat court, sources said.

The Ukrainian woman claimed that she was asked to handover the cocaine to a person staying at a hotel in Kolkata.
