Goa police charges Tarun Tejpal with rape

The crime branch charged Tejpal for rape. The chargesheet runs into 2,846 pages.

The chargesheet has been submitted before the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), Panaji, and would subsequently be handed over to the district and sessions court. It includes 132 pages of main chargesheet, 30 pages of witnesses and annexture papers running into 2,684 pages. The police have recorded the statement of 152 witnesses, including that of investigating officer Sunita Sawant.

The crime branch, in the chargesheet, said: ‘There is sufficient evidence available in the form of documents, statements and electronic records, on record, to prove that on 7 November 2013, the victim was raped, sexually harassed, and her modesty outraged inside an elevator in the lift of five star hotel, Bambolim, Goa by her own employer (Tarun) Tejpal.’

The police want to prosecute Tejpal under Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (outraging modesty), 341 (wrongfully restrain), 342 (wrongful confinement), 376 (rape), 376(2) (f) (person in position of trust or authority over a women commits rape on such women) and 376(2) (k) (rape of a woman by a person being in position of control or dominance over the women) IPC.
