Go Goa, Delhi!

For Delhites with places like Kasaul, Mcleodganj, Mussoorie, Rajasthan et all, being a bus ride away – Goa means big plans. And why would anyone want to pick the sunny beaches over cooler climes? Here are the reasons. Even though December to March are the best times to visit Goa, the summer season is attracting a lot of tourists. Delhites can take a direct flight to Panaji or one to Mumbai and take an overnight bus or train to Goa.

The Goa carnival and the Holi festival which concluded recently are other major attractions. Last year, over 80,000 travelers came to Goa to be a part of the carnival. Music, parades, parties, food and culture are all a major draw. The Goa carnival used to be attended by only the local people not so long ago but now attracts people from all across.

One of the recent additions the Grand Hyatt in Goa is one of the best places to stay. Based on a 17 century Indo-Portuguese palace. Located right next to Bambolim Bay in North Goa, the  400-year old chapel on the property and takes you back in time.

Chulha, one of the restaurants at the Grand Hyatt is a great place to eat. Chulha serves meals in clay pots and copper pans, keeping with the authentic Indian theme. The crispy spinach chaat and the tandoori prawns are must tries.

Cultural fusion is very prominent in Goan cuisine. The Konkani and Portuguese influence is very prominent in the flavours.

La-Plage, French for ‘The beach’, is a laid back French restaurant on Asvem beach. Serving mouth watering dishes, the menu at La – Plage is a work of art which changes often. This time round the crispy pork underbelly and mussels stood out. The setting is stunning as well. La-Plage has opened in Manali as well

Calamari in the Calangute area serves great food and has live music. The Sunday lunch is highly recommended.

Another great eatery –Thalassa, located on Vagator beach is another great restaurant in Goa offering amazing sun set views. The fried calamari rings and beef and pork sausages are delicious. Fresh ingredients with the flavours of Greece make for a palate satisfying experience consistently.

For food lovers like Delhi people are, what could be better than merging the best of sea food, some great beer and the beach all in one trip? So Delhi...pack in some beachwear and head over!
