Girl’s throat slit for saying no to marriage, youth held

A 24-year-old youth allegedly slit the throat of an 18-year-old girl for allegedly refusing to accept his marriage proposal. The incident took place in Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area on Friday morning. According to senior police officials, within hours, they arrested the accused identified as Rahul. 
Sources, meanwhile, said that the girl, admitted at the Sanjay Gandhi hospital is stable.

According to senior police officers of the Outer district, the incident took place at around 9 am in the T-block of Mangolpuri area when 18-year-old Sapna was present at her house. While she was getting ready, Rahul entered her room, slashed her throat with a sharp edged object several times and fled from the spot. Sources said that Sapna’s family members were not present inside the house when Rahul attacked Sapna. It was only later when a relative who came to visit, found Sapna lying in a pool of blood, writhing in pain.

Police were informed by the hospital authorities. Her family was informed and Sapna was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi hospital where doctors declared her to be critical but out of danger. Sources, meanwhile, said that Rahul was unemployed. He is son of a Delhi Police constable. Sources further said that since Rahul was unemployed, Sapna’s family had refused to get her married to him. 

Enraged over this, he took the extreme action.

In a similar incident, on Monday evening, a jilted lover allegedly pushed a 21-year-old woman off the balcony of her house when she refused to accept his marriage proposal at Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area on late Monday evening. According to the police, the accused, Amit befriended the victim on social networking site, Facebook, one-and-a-half years ago. Police said that they have arrested the accused, identified as Amit.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 9 pm in the Avantika Enclave apartments where the girl lived with her family. The accused, Amit, allegedly forcefully entered the girls house with his two sisters and a man and started arguing with the girl and her family to accept his marriage proposal. Sources said that in a fit of rage, Amit allegedly pushed the girl off the balcony of her first floor house. A day after Amit was arrested, police had also arrested his sister Manju under Section 307.
