Girl says no to marriage, lover pushes her off balcony

A jilted lover allegedly pushed a 21-year-old woman off the balcony of her house when she refused to accept his marriage proposal at Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area on late Monday evening. According to the police, the accused, Amit, befriended the victim on the social networking site Facebook one-and-a-half-years ago. Police said that they have arrested Amit.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 9 pm in the Avantika Enclave apartments where the girl lived with her family. Amit allegedly forcefully entered the girl’s house with two women and a man and started arguing with the girl and her family to accept his marriage proposal. Sources said that in a fit of rage, Amit allegedly pushed the girl from the balcony of her house in the first floor of the building.

Locals and neighbours present at the spot found the 21-year old girl lying in a pool of blood. When Amit and his accomplices tried to flee from the spot, neighbours allegedly thrashed him and handed him over to the police. In the meantime, the family members of the girl rushed her to Baba Saheb Ambedkar hospital where she is stated to be in a critical condition. Sources said that the girl received fractures on her hand, legs and head.

Sources said that a year-and-a-half ago, Amit and the girl became friends on Facebook and hence, exchanged numbers and started talking over phone. They allegedly entered into a relationship. When the girl told her parents about Amit, they told her that they will carry out a background check on him only after which they will agree to get her married to Amit.

Sources further said that in the background check, the girl’s family found that he was unemployed and was not of a good temperament. Due to which, the girl too stopped talking to him.

For the past six months, on her family’s insistence, the girl was not in touch with Amit. However, Amit was allegedly putting pressure on her to get married.

Police meanwhile, said that they have arrested Amit under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code at the Mangolpuri police station.
