Girl lodges complaint against abusive stepmother

A seven year old girl lodged a complaint against her stepmother in local police station, after she was physically tortured at Salt Lake.

The neighbours rescued the girl from her stepmother and took her to Bidhannagar South police station. The victim girl, Lipika Das (name changed) broke into her tears in front of the police officers. She removed her clothes to show the burn injuries which she received from her stepmother.

The police detained the accused woman and her husband. “We are now interrogating Dipali Das, the accused stepmother and her husband Sukdev. We will investigate the allegations against them,” said a police officer. “Sukdev and his family resided in Namkhana.

His first wife died there. Later, he married Dipali and shifted to Salt Lake. The little girl alleged that her stepmother not only beats her but has also burnt her with hot frying pan,” said the officer. “I heard that the girl was crying in front of her house. I asked her the reason. She said, she cannot stay in this house,” said a neighbour who brought her to the police station.

“Sukdev does not know that his wife regularly tortures her girl. The woman threatened the girl to keep her mouth shut. She also threatened to kill her,” said another neighbour.

The police inspected the house where they found some of the things with which the girl was beaten up.
