Girl from Patna raped by youth near Howrah station

Tension ran high at Howrah station on late Tuesday night after a girl who came to the city from Patna alleged that a youth had taken her to a nearby desolate place with promises of giving her food and raped her there.

The accused had later left the victim at the Howrah station. A local non-governmental organisation (NGO) came to know about the incident and rescued the victim girl from the station area.

The girl was taken to a nearby police station but the case was later handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP).

On Wednesday, he victim’s medical tests were performed at Howrah hospital.

In the course of investigation, police came to know that the victim had been subjected to physical torture
by her father at her residence in Patna. As she had to suffer unbearable pain, she decided to flee from her home. She took a train and reached Howrah station a couple of days ago.

Since then she had been staying at Howrah station. She did not have enough money to get food. She was almost starving and she did not have much money left.

Taking advantage of this, the accused convinced her by saying that he would provide her food. The accused took the victim to a deserted place under Golabari police station and committed the crime.

On the basis of the complaint, the police have started an investigation in this regard. After going through the CCTV footages at Howrah station, police have identified the accused.

well acquainted with the accused. Police are also investigating if the accused had accompanied the victim to Howrah from Patna.
