Girl denied entry to school for being married, ends life

In a tragic incident, a school girl committed suicide after she was asked not to visit the school. The incident triggered tension at Datan in West Midnapore. The victim’s family members alleged that the headmaster of Jankapur High School few days ago had asked the girl not to attend the classes as she got married while studying in class XI.

The victim got married few days ago. When she went to the school after her marriage, the headmaster of the school allegedly asked the girl not to go to school. This incident had made a wrong impact on the mind of the school girl who told the matter to her family members. In last couple of days she did not go to school. The incident had disturbed her so much that she took the drastic step. 

On Friday morning when there was no one at her house she committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling. When the family members returned home they saw the victim hanging. After being informed, the police rushed to the spot and sent the body for the post mortem examination. Police have recovered a suicide note from the spot and they were examining it.

As soon as the news of the girl’s suicide spread the villagers rushed to the school and gheraoed the headmaster of the school for few hours. A mob staged demonstration at the office of the headmaster. The sub-divisional police officer of Kharagpur had to rush to the spot to bring the situation under control. They removed the gherao movement and freed the headmaster.

Local people put up protest movement in front of senior police officers and demanded strong action against the headmaster of the school as they claimed that because of the headmaster the girl committed suicide. Later, the police pacified the mob and assured them that they were looking into the cause that prompted the girl to commit suicide.
