Girl beaten up for protesting against misbehaviour

A college girl was beaten up by some youth after she protested against them for passing lewd remarks at Dhupguri in North Bengal.

Police said the victim, a student from a local college, was returning home from private tuition on Tuesday when some youth hurled abusive language at her.

When she protested, they assaulted and beaten her up. After being humiliated by them, the girl screamed for help. Before some local people came to her rescue, the accused fled from the spot.

The girl, who received injuries on her head, was taken to Dhupguri hospital after the incident.

The police have started an investigation on the basis of complaints lodged by the victim’s family members.

They were conducting raids at various places to arrest the culprits.

According to the preliminary investigation, police came to know that the youth were hurling abusive language her for quite sometimes.

They also threatened the girl with dire consequences if she tells anybody about the matter.

Hence the girl was so frightened that she did not inform the matter to her family members.

But on Tuesday, the incident took an ugly turn when the accused assaulted her physically for protesting against their misbehaviour.

Police said the accused hit the girl’s head with a heavy substance. The doctors at the hospital had done various clinical tests on the girl. Her health condition is gradually improving, doctors said.

Local people alleged that a group of some local youth often eve teases college girls while passing through the area.

The local residents demanded that the police must take action against these local miscreants.
