Ghaziabad roads washed away, contractors to face music

Ghaziabad mayor has ordered the filing of a police complaint against five contractors, after about a dozen roads were partially or totally washed away following three days of rain.

During the rain, residents alleged that they had to face multiple problems of water-logging, power cuts and non-availability of potable water. The maximum damage occurred on roads that have been built recently.

The city part of the Meerut Road, which was built by a PWD contractor and has not received a completion certificate yet, has washed away. The contractor claimed to have suffered a loss of Rs 40 crore.

A link road constructed in Raj Nagar Extension, Gaushala Road connecting Noida and Shastri Nagar Road were also damaged. "I have asked the municipal commissioner to lodge an FIR against the contractor who built the roads, which were found partially or totally washed away," said Mayor <g data-gr-id="21">Teluram</g> Kamboj.

"Five contractors have been found guilty of constructing substandard roads. They should be punished. So I have ordered an FIR against the contractors,” he added.
