Ggn cops seize nearly Rs 8 lakh in new notes

The Gurugram Police on Tuesday morning seized Rs 7,92,000 in the new currency notes of Rs 2,000.

According to the officials, based on a tip-off at 8.30 am on Tuesday they held a person at Rajiv Chowk with the huge amount.

The person was later taken into custody and is now being interrogated by the income tax officials. This is the third such incident in the city where such a huge amount has been held by the city police in the new currency notes over the past week. The Gurugram Police have earlier seized an amount of Rs 17 lakh and Rs 10 lakh in new currency notes.

With incidents of high amount now being recovered in new currency notes, the role of certain bank officials in the city being in cahoots with the corrupt in converting black money into white has come under scanner. Recently, two working staff of HDFC Bank in the city were booked after they were found converting black money into white at a commission rate.
