Ggn cop suspended over indecent proposal to 25-year-old victim

A police constable of the Farrukhnagar police station has been suspended for making an indecent proposal to a woman in the premises of the South Gurgaon police station. The victim is a married woman who was subjected to domestic violence and was subsequently rescued from her in-laws’ house on Saturday night.

The 25-year-old victim lived in Farrukhnagar in a joint family with her in-laws. She got married to one Mukesh five years ago, and has a child. Mukesh works at the State Council of Educational Research and Training Centre (SCERT). According to her family, she was often harassed by her in-laws for being dumb witted.

On Saturday, the woman’s in-laws including her mother-in-law Krishna Devi, father-in-law Keshav Ram and her husband’s two elder brothers Vinod and Manoj threatened to kill her. The victim complained that they tried to kill her by burning her. She escaped by locking herself inside a bedroom. Luckily, she was carrying her mobile phone with her at that time and called her brother and told him about the threat and torture. Her family lives in Baldev Nagar, and they suggested her to call the police.

The victim then called the Police Control Room, however, the number was busy. She then called up the women helpline on 1091 at around 11.30 pm and shared her plight with them. Within a few minutes, cops from the Farrukhnagar police station reached her house. At this point, the victim insisted that she does not want to stay with her in-laws and wants go with the cops. Since there were women cops in the station at that time, the cops denied to take her along with them. However, the woman kept pleading following which she and her child were taken along with them.

The in-laws were booked under Sections, 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 498 (enticing or taking away or detaining with criminal intent a married woman).

While the woman was alone in one of the rooms in the police station, the accused constable Subhash who was posted as the guard at the gate came to her room on the pretext of charging his mobile phone. A few minutes later, he once again came to the room and asked her about the problem, to which the victim narrated her plight.

At this point, Subhash allegedly told the woman that he can ensure that her in-laws get booked with heinous crimes and face difficulties if she sleeps with him that night.

Showing presence of mind, the victim took his phone number and then stepped out on pretending to go to the washroom. She then called her family and told them about the cop.

After the incident, the constable was immediately sent to the Police Lines and was later suspended. “The police personnel told him clearly that there is no female cop in the police station but the girl insisted. However, after her allegations, she still hasn’t filed any complaint against the cop despite the police asking for it. Still we have taken an action against the constable and have suspended him but a legal action can only be taken after a complaint is received,” said DCP South, Sulochana Kumari.
