Ggn bakery shop goes up in flames, no casualties

A major fire broke out in Gurgaon’s Sadar Bazar area in a bakery on Tuesday evening at around 6.30 pm. The bakery is in a four-floor building in Sadar Bazar which is Gurgaon’s largest market.

Around 17 fire tenders with 60 firemen and one hydraulic platform reached the spot in efforts to douse the flames. Four more fire engines joined them shortly before 8 pm.

The fire brigade received the first call at 6:46 pm at its Sector 29 station and six fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

The Bhim Nagar fire station was alerted at 6:50 pm and two tenders were rushed within a minute. However, the firemen noticed that the blaze was massive and more fire tenders were called in at 7:05 pm from Udyog Vihar and two water tankers were rushed.

According to an eye-witness, a procession that was passing through the Sadar Bazar area somehow touched the overhead lines and as a result, wires came in contact and produced massive flames that gutted Utsav Bakery Shop. According to officials, the store also had stocks of thermocol and balloons that may have aggravated the fire. The building also had a couple of fire crackers shops next to it.
Shopkeepers reported that fire vehicles reached half-an-hour late to the spot and alleged that locals helped them to conduct the rescue.

“A strategy was made immediately to decongest the market and then the rescue operation was carried out. Goods worth lakhs have been destroyed and no casualty has been reported yet. The fire tenders were delayed because of the encroached roads in Sadar Bazaar area. The situation was brought under control by 9:30 pm,” said a senior district administration official.
