Get your skin monsoon ready

Monsoons have come and its time to get respite from hot summer. Its bright and beautiful all around but your skin may not enjoy this season. Yes, in monsoons, skin needs special care or several problems may occur. So, if you are health conscious, take a few simple precautions and you can save your skin a lot over bad skin.

The high humidity in the atmosphere blocks the pores of our skin which leads to increase in the acne, boils and dust particles also stick to it. Cleansing the skin helps to get rid of dirt, dust, pollutants, make up and excess secretion such as sweat on the surface of the skin. Dr Gulshant Panesar, a consultant of dermatology says, 'Daily cleansing helps to improve the appearance of the skin, making it smooth, clean, healthy and young. The best way to do so is use cleansing cream, cactus cream or raw milk'.

Major problem that occurs in the rainy season is the fungal infection. Keeping the body parts dry and clean is the best way to protect from fungal infections. Dr D M Mahajan, a senior consultant, Dermatologist says, 'Bathing twice a day is very essential. Clothes should be ventilating i.e. cotton dresses should be preferred. Jeans should be avoided.' Drying the toes with a hair dryer helps in preventing foot problems, adds Mahajan.

Using face wash twice or thrice a day helps in removing the oiliness of the skin but the face wash should contain salicylic acid, says Dr Farida Modi. Face pack improves the glow of the skin. Hence two or three face packs a week will be helpful, adds Modi. Papaya or cucumber packs can prove healthy. Simply applying egg white is helpful in rainy season. It removes excessive oil and repairs the skin, specially during humid weather.

Diet plays a crucial role in healthy body. So it is necessary to ensure that the skin also gets optimal nutrition. Dr Geetika Mittal Gupta, dermatologist and medical director-ISAAC says, 'Eating a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, including more dark green and orange vegetables can ensure healthy skin. Consumption of calcium-rich foods, such as fat-free or low-fat milk and other dairy products are helpful. Variety of low-fat or lean meats, poultry and fish can be opted.' Eating less salty food as it helps in less water retention from the body is advisable.

UV rays are very harmful to the skin. They hasten the wrinkling and darkening of the skin. Hence use of sun screen is very essential. This will help in protecting the skin from environment factors like sun and pollution that can hasten aging.
