Get poll ready: Advani

Asking party members to be prepared for the general elections in 2014, senior BJP leader LK Advani on Friday said the perception that the BJP is not poll ready despite the UPA's poor performance is some thing that the party should take up seriously.

Advani was addressing BJP members at the two-day national executive meet in Mumbai. While speaking to the BJP members, the senior leader said that comments like the BJP not being ready for elections is a worrying sign for the party and the BJP should work towards preparing itself for the general elections.

In recent times the party has been struggling with internal factionalism, and with elections due in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh this year there are some tough times ahead for the party.

In his speech, Advani also reiterated the importance of regional parties. The senior leader praised Mamata Banerjee for ousting the Left after thirty years in West Bengal and also appreciated the Samajwadi Party winning the elections in Uttar Pradesh. The party president Nitin Gadkari in his inaugural speech on Thursday had also highlighted the importance of regional parties in national politics.

Earlier criticising the UPA government, the BJP said that the present situation in the country is similar to the emergency era in 1974. 'At that time, the problem was of unemployment and poverty. The government could not bring the situation under control and imposed Emergency,' said BJP leader Gopinath Munde.

The party also attacked the Congress President Sonia Gandhi for her comments on the occasion of three years of UPA, where she criticised the BJP for making aggressive and irresponsible criticism.

'If there is overpowering gloom and despair because of rank misrule and mal-governance of the Congress-led UPA, then the BJP has a duty towards the suffering people of the country to articulate their concern,' said the party's political resolution.
