German honour for Zubin Mehta

In his illustrious career spanning decades, music maestro Zubin Mehta has picked up many awards. Films have been made documenting his life. Keeping up with the tradition, the India-born Western classical music maestro will be honoured by Germany with its grand cross Order of Merit by the new German Ambassador to India Michael Steiner in the Capital next week.
‘Next weekend, I will bestow the commander’s cross of the Order of Merit on Zubin Mehta, who will come to India for this purpose,’ Steiner, who had presented his credentials to President Pratibha Patil only this week, said. Steiner called Mehta ‘a true world citizen’ and said that the musician has made ‘enormous contribution’ in the field of classical music and to India-Germany bilateral relationship.
