General Manager RK Gupta pays surprise visit to Sealdah and Kolkata terminals

R K Gupta, General Manager, Eastern Railway paid a surprise visit to the Sealdah station at about 10.30 am on Saturday to review the special arrangements made for the Chhat Puja festival. 

Divisional Railway Manager, Sealdah, Chief Security Commissioner, ADRM and other branch officers of Sealdah Division were also present on the spot.

The General Manager inspected the station complex, manning of booking counters and the other amenities which are  available for passengers. He also exclusively reviewed the security arrangements, crowd management schemes during the rush hours and discussed the running of suburban trains on time.

He emphasized on crew management and planned for smooth running of local trains and long distance trains laying emphasis on the Chhat Puja special trains. He also advised for better cleaning of the compartments and station complex, as well as adequate supply of drinking water and frequent announcements through PA system regarding the arrival & departures, platform numbers etc. for the convenience of passengers. He laid emphasis on the proper security arrangement and deployment of security personnel at the strategic points to help the passengers in case of necessity. He advised the divisional authorities to popularize CoTVM machines, Smart Card counters for quick dispersal of rush.

He also advised to further improve of cleanliness wherever there is any scope. Recently, a 4,000 liters per hour capacity state-of-the-art UV based chilled plant was inaugurated and dedicated to the passengers at Sealdah station.

The GM emphasized on clean toilets and sufficient water supply in both trains and station premises. He also stressed that light illumination in some areas needed to be improved further by the divisional authorities for the convenience of the passengers.

He said that sufficient number of commercial staff should be available at the trains as well as at the booking counters as per requirement. Commercial staff should be visible at ‘May I Help You Booths’ to provide guidance & assistance for the needy passengers. 

Divisional authorities have been advised to review proper crew management and emphasized for regular inspection of the rakes before placement at the platform with proper lighting, water and clean toilets arrangements etc. Gupta advised the commercial staff to be available at ticket counters to help passengers to purchase their tickets smoothly and undertake their journey with dignity. Divisional officers were also advised to remain present and monitor the crowd management, security system, particularly during the Chhat Puja time.

Eastern Railway has also planned to run 33 trains during the Chhat Puja specials to various destinations like Raxaul, Anand Vihar, Muzaffarpur and Nautanwa.

Later, R K Gupta inspected the Kolkata Terminal wherein he advised opening some additional ticket counters for the convenience of passengers adding that these counters would be permanently opened in addition to the existing counters. He reviewed the arrangements made for North-east bound trains leaving Kolkata Terminal. The entire security arrangement was exclusively reviewed when he inspected the security control room and CCTV cameras. He instructed that all the CCTV cameras should be closely monitored by the security personnel with the help of newly recruited RPSF lady constables to see to the comfort of lady passengers in particular.
