Gaping holes in police probe

WHY WAS THE ROOM KEPT SEALED?
Sunanda was found dead in suite No 345 at Hotel Leela Palace on Jan 17, 2014. Two days after the investigation conducted by Delhi police, the room was sealed. The seal of the room was broken and opened only on the insistence of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and the AIIMS medical board to visit the scene of crime.

WHY ORIGINAL DIGITAL VIDEO RECORD WAS NOT CHECKED?
Delhi Police never indicated that they checked the original Digital Video Record of the hotel. On the day of the incident, Delhi Police asked the hotel authorities to provide  CCTV footage of the floor where the couple was staying. But the hotel staff told cops that the cameras at that particular floor were non-functional and were under repair.

Believing the hotel authorities, Delhi Police did not bother to check the original DVR. It seems that the CCTV cameras were functional at the time of the incident and later the hotel authorities were under pressure to either delete or hide the footage to save the culprit.

WHY DELAY IN LETTER ROGATORY?
To send the viscera samples abroad, Delhi police needs a Letter Rogatory from the concerned court. To obtain LR, it is mandatory to lodge an FIR, in case there is no complainant, the court is treated as the complainant and the FIR is registered. Then the LR needs the signature of LG. Once, all these formalities are completed the samples can be sent abroad. Now, the question is: “Why did Delhi police delay in obtaining LR, despite the post-mortem examination report being submitted by Delhi police on September 30, 2014 and the conclusive report by the SDM in early November?”
