Gangsters throw chilli powder in cops’ eyes, escape with prisoner

Six gangsters in a Scorpio car on Monday morning waylaid a police sub-inspector and four other policemen near a railway station in Baghpat district and escaped with a prisoner by throwing chilli powder in their eyes. The prisoner Amit alias Bhoora had been brought from Dehradun jail for production before a court in Baghpat. A police sub inspector and four policemen were escorting him.

The incident occurred at Tateeri railway station about 35-kilometer from the national Capital when the train reached Agrawal Mandi Tatiri railway station, the policemen along with the prisoner were boarding an auto, when the gangsters in a Scorpio vehicle waylaid them.

The gangsters threw chilli powder in the eyes of the policemen, and began firing in the air to scare away passers-by. They snatched 2 AK-47 rifles and a self-loading rifle, before making their escape with the prisoner.

Baghpat police immediately put barricades around the town, but the gangsters had already escaped by then. Alok Sharma, IG, Meerut Zone, said, police would soon round up Amit and the other gangsters. Sources said, underworld don Sunil Rathi, presently incarcerated inside a jail in Uttarakhand had masterminded this escape. “Amit alias Bhura is a dreaded criminal of western

Police teams have been constituted to nab him and his accomplices,” said the IG. Amit alias Bhoora was involved in firing outside Roorkee jail, in order to kill another gangster Chinoo. He has been accused in murder, extortion and other heinous crime as he is involved in criminal activities since 14-15 years age.
