Gang targeting grocery shops busted, 5 held

With the arrest of five persons, the Delhi Police claimed to have busted a gang, which allegedly used to target grocery shops in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Hashim alias Doctor, Shubham, Vivek Kumar, Reshu Prasad and Kirti have been arrested, DCP (East) Rishi Pal Singh said.

The gang, dubbed as ‘doctor gang’, was allegedly involved in a robbery-cum-firing incident in East Delhi’s Kalyanpuri on September 18, in which they had robbed two grocery shops in the Durga Market area, the DCP said. The accused had opened fire at the shopkeepers after they resisted, he said.

A team formed to investigate the matter had received a tip-off about the presence of gang leader Hashim and his accomplice Shubham at Sector 12 in Noida, he said.

A raid was conducted and the two were arrested, he added. They told the police about the whereabouts
of Reshu and Vivek, who were arrested from Chaura village in Noida.

Hashim told the police that he and his associates had earlier been arrested in a robbery case and were lodged in Bhondsi Jail (Gurgaon), where they plotted to target grocery shops, he said.

The gang used to target grocery and wholesale shops as they contain a huge amount of cash and could be robbed easily, the police officer said.

In the last three-four months, the gang had carried out several robberies in New Ashok Nagar, Mansarovar Park, Khora Colony in Ghaziabad and some areas in Faridabad, said the officer.

He added that further investigation was underway.
