Gang-rape victim turns hostile, withdraws FIR against 18 accused

A 20-year-old married woman who was allegedly gang-raped by 18 men in Kadarpur village of Badshahpur area, turned hostile immediately the next day after the FIR was filed. Police said that the victim had lodged a complaint against 18 men on Monday evening regarding the incident at Badshahpur police station, 27 kilometres from Gurgaon.

The victim, in her complaint to the police had said that she was attacked by 3-4 men who jumped over a fence and came into her house in Kadarpur and intoxicated her by using a chemical sprayed handkerchief with the motive of stealing jewellery and then was taken to an isolated place where she was allegedly gang-raped. Her family members were out at a get-together during that time. 

The names of the accused in the FIR include Amit, Rajesh, Veerpal, Manoj, Sandeep, Rajbir, Lalu, Prahlad, Pawan, Balraj, Adesh, Sunil, Raksh, Sunny, Dharmendra, Sanjay, Phulli and Karan. They were men from the same village as the victim and were all known to her.

Sources also revealed that the woman was having an extra-marital affair with one of the accused whose name was mentioned in the FIR. When the family got to know about their affair, they held a meeting with the Panchayat members to sort out the issue. At the meeting, the victim denied all the allegations and pushed the blame on 18 members of the village for allegedly raping her a night before.

Police confirmed after the medical test that there were no signs of rape or any physical injuries on the body. “She had come to register a complaint against 18 men of her village who allegedly raped her. But within a few hours of registering the complaint, she came back and asked to withdraw her complaint, saying that no one had raped her,” said Praveen Malik, the SHO, Badshahpur.

A case has been filed by the Badshahpur police station against the 18 men under Section 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrong­ful restraint) 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) and 376d (gang-rape) of the IPC.
