A rape victim committed suicide after the accused threatened her to rape again at Bishnupur in Bankura district.

The victim girl could not tolerate the mental trauma and consumed poison on Sunday night. She was taken to a nearby hospital but declared brought dead there. The police have started an investigation.

Police said, the incident took place on October 16. The girl, a school student, was playing Kabaddi at a ground near her house. Some youths abducted her from the ground and took her to a deserted place.

Sukhendu Paul, Bakkur Shekh, Kochon Shekh and Saifuddin Shekh — the accused took her to a place and told the girl that they have to discuss something important with her. She was told that her boyfriend will also come to that place.

Those youths allegedly gang-raped the girl there and then escaped from the spot. The family members started to search for their girl who was then missing from the area, since the evening.

The police found her lying in that deserted place and she was taken to a hospital.

Fearing the reactions and derogatory comments, the girl tried to commit suicide by consuming poison
after returning home. She was timely rescued by her sister-in-law then but on Sunday, nobody from the family knew that she consumed poison again. Doctor declared her brought dead, after she was taken to
the hospital.

Police have arrested accused Sukhendu Pal.

It may be recalled that in almost a similar incident in August this year, a minor girl was allegedly raped by some youths at Burdwan’s Simlan village. The victim was later admitted in the district hospital.

Police said, the girl went to a village fair, which was arranged by some local clubs. The youths were also there in that fair. They started to pursue the girl.

Suddenly those youths pounced on the girl and overpowered her. They took her to a tent at the fair ground and gang-raped her there.
