Gang of 1,000 thefts busted

The police have busted a gang of burglars, who claim to be involved in over 1,000 cases of thefts and burglaries in Ghaziabad.

'The gang was active from Meerut to Ghaziabad and targeted houses that were vacant for long time,' said Prashant Kumar, SSP Ghaziabad.

According to the police, they have arrested five members of the gang on Sunday night. Apparently, the gang was planning to burgle a house in Kavi Nagar area, when it was caught. They were waiting for their leader who had gone to recce an vacant house in the vicinity. Among the arrested five members, two were women. The gang leader and his associate managed to flee from the spot.

'We have been involved in over 1,000 cases of burglaries and thefts,' claimed Santram, one of main members of the gang. He is a resident of Meerut and had served six years in jail earlier.

Of the arrested, was Guddi (22), wife of the gang leader, Mukhlal, a resident of Meerut and Rajkumari (50), mother of Sheshnath, the associate. The duo, Mukhlal and Sheshnath, had managed to escape. The other arrested accused were Jagdish, who hails from Madhya Pradesh and Vikram who belongs to Aligarh. The police have recovered three country made pistols, two mobiles, some gold ornaments, and Rs 1,900 in cash from their possession.
