Gang holds family hostage, decamps with goods worth Rs 10L

A gang of miscreants barged into the house of a businessman at Tamluk in East Midnapore and looted cash and valuables worth nearly Rs 10 lakh at gunpoint. The incident had triggered tension in the area.

Police said that a gang of 14-15 armed miscreants stormed into the house Bhakti Maity a local businessman at Bholluk Panchbheria village late Sunday night. 

They broke open the door and entered into the house when the family members were asleep. They dacoits tied the mouth of the family members with a piece of cloth so that they cannot raise an alarm. After that they put a gun on the head of a 6-month-old baby and threatened the businessman of dire consequences, if he did not hand over the key of the almirah to them. They miscreants snatched away the key and looted hard cash and many ornaments.

On Monday morning the local people had noticed that the front door of the house was lying broken and went inside the house to find that the family members were tied with pieces of cloth. After removing their ties the local residents informed the police who reached the spot later and started an investigation.

Police are conducting raids in various places of the districts to nab the culprits. They are probing the businessman and the other members of the family if they could provide any clues regarding the incident.

The police are interrogating the businessman if he suspects anybody’s involvement in this incident. The domestic help of the house are also being interrogated. Police are also investigating if Maity had any business rivalry with anybody.
