Gambling racket: Five held from Jalpaiguri
Police arrested five persons including two women in connection with an inter-state gambling racket operating in a hotel at Jalpaiguri’s Lataguri. Police said that those five persons were arrested from the
hotel. The owner of the hotel was also among the five arrested persons.
“We have arrested those people and they will be sent to court. Those people have come from Bihar,” said a police officer.
However, the police also informed that ‘Poker’ a gambling game was being played there. “They were playing poker. We have seized dice and poker board,” he said.
However, the police learnt that Rs 20 lakh in new currency notes were recovered, which was supposed to be used in the poker game.
“The owner of the hotel said she provided the room on rental basis. But she did not know anything about the game. But she is not innocent. The other accused have also mentioned her name in interrogation,” the officer said.
“We conduct raids, time and again, in the city to unearth those rackets. Some criminals were also involved in those rackets,” the officer added.
