Gadkari throws open Manesar-Palwal stretch of KMP E-Way

Having missed multiple deadlines, the Manesar-Palwal stretch of the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway was formally thrown open on Tuesday morning, when Union Minister of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the 53-km stretch in Palwal.

The work for the development of the KMP Expressway was first started in 2006 and was expected to be ready by July 29, 2009. However, M/s KMP Expressway Limited failed to deliver the project on time, as the agreement was cancelled multiple times in the face of court orders.

The Expressway was formed keeping in mind the idea to decongest traffic entering the Capital. Now, the National Highway-2 (Delhi-Agra) has been connected with National Highway-8 (Delhi-Jaipur), facilitating vehicles to go easily from NH-2 to NH-8 without entering into Delhi. This means, that traffic from Mathura and Agra headed for Gurgaon, Manesar or Jaipur can now use this Expressway instead of entering Delhi and vice versa, saving time and money.

This stretch has 4 tolls. The Expressway will be forming a ring around the NCR area, the eastern (connecting Kundli, Ghaziabad and Palwal) and the western (Kundli, Manesar and Palwal) peripheral Expressways were conceived to ensure that non-destined commercial vehicles, which are estimated to be more than 80,000 now, do not enter the city limits of Delhi.

Nitin Gadkari announced that the East and West Bypass around Delhi would not only bring down pollution levels of Delhi by at least 50 per cent but also will it decrease the load of traffic. “Elevated road on the part of NH-2 passing through Palwal City which will cover all the four intersections (chowks) within the city will be constructed. An over bridge would be constructed across the Yamuna River on Hasanpur road. Dabwali district in Sirsa will also have a bypass constructed for connecting Hissar-Fazilka road with Bhatinda-Ganganagar road,” Gadkari added.

Gadkari also talked about how technology and innovation will bring electric car to reduce pollution levels. The 12.3-km project of Pod Car in Gurgaon will begin by June 1. This pod system will run from Delhi-Gurgaon border to Sohna Road in Gurgaon.
