Fuso trucks to be exported to Asian, African mkts from June

Chennai: German truck manufacturer Daimler, along with Japan-headquartered Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, has proposed to ship Fuso range of trucks to 15 overseas markets from June, top officials said on Thursday.The export of five models of Fuso brand of trucks by Daimler India Commercial Vehicle and MFTBC is under the 'DAIMLER Trucks Asia' platform, as part of its Asia business model strategy.
After launching the Fuso trucks from Oragadam plant situated 45 km from here, DICV, managing director and CEO, Marc Llistosella, said the Fuso trucks, based on Daimler Truck platform, would be exported to Asian and African markets beginning June 2013.
The five models of Fuso Truck range between medium and heavy duty (25 and 49 tonnes), light and medium tonne (between nine and 16 tonnes), he said in a statement.
The trucks would be exported from India and sold through Fuso dealership networks in 15 Asian and African markets.
Initially, he said, the company would export the trucks to Sri Lanka which would be followed by Bangladesh, Zambia, Kenya, Brunei later this year. MFTBC President and Daimler Trucks Asia-head, Albert Kirchmann said,'the new Asia business model would enable us to unlock full potential among MFTBC and DICV.With the strategic Fuso truck ready for launch for export outside of India, our growth story Fuso 2015 is at full speed ahead,' he said.
He said both MFTBC and DICV have set a combined target of doubling annual sales to 2.90 lakh units by 2020.
The Oragadam manufacturing facility would focus on truck deliveries of Mercedes Benz and BharatBenz trucks for India and Fuso trucks for overseas markets,
