Funny family drama on small screen

The new year has begun ushering in new television serials with two humourous family-oriented shows — Tota Weds Maina and Hum Apke Hain In Laws — set for release on 14 January.

Tota Weds Maina, produced by Miloni Pictures and being telecast on SAB TV Monday to Friday at 10.30 pm, highlights the harmonious relations prevailing in different strata of society, caste, language and religion in India of which one representation is shown in the funny side of Totaram Tiwari and his dysfunctional family.

Actor Gaurav Gera, who portrays the main character Tota, and Kavita Kaushik as Maina Shukla, end up getting married to each other by mistake at a mass community wedding. What unfolds is a hilarious journey in which the tomboyish Maina keeps falling in trouble — such as taking catapult potshots at the neighbours’ mud water pots and breaking them — while Tota finds himself at the receiving end due to her misadventures.

In Hum Apke Hain In Laws, Karan Grover plays Gulshan Grover and Pooja Pihal plays Damini Grover. The emphasis is on cheerful, light-hearted comedy depicting a couple’s daily life which is constantly interrupted by their neighbouring in-laws. The show explores the twists, turns and adventures daily where the loving and doting in laws happen to be not only unconditionally loving but also unintentionally interfering in their bid to make life simple for the young couple, but instead end up complicating things.

Anuj Kapoor, EVP and Business Head, SAB TV, said Tota Weds Maina presented a regional flavour while also showing how destiny brings them together in marriage. Hum Apke Hain In Laws focused on the positives in the couple’s life, which was being constantly intruded by the respective in laws from both sides of the family.
