Four TMC workers victims of post-poll violence in Howrah

Four Trinamool Congress workers including a woman were injured in post poll violence in the past 24 hours after the elections in Howrah.

On Monday night Congress backed goons attacked the house of a polling agent of Trinamool Congress at Binola Village in Amta. The accused dragged the agent Ananda Shankar Santra and his mother Sulekha Santra out of the house. Some of the accused started beating them up while rest of the goons ransacked the house. They continued beating up Santra and his mother till they fell on the ground. They also damaged all valuables in their house.

The Santra family has been attacked as despite being threatened, the victim worker is an agent of Trinamool Congress. It is learnt that some Congress supporters had threatened him earlier. But Santra didn’t pay heed to their threat. Santra received severe injuries all over his body. His mother received a fracture on her hand.

The accused fled when some local people came out of their houses hearing their cries for help. They left the place when the victim’s neighbours raised their voice against the attack. But before leaving the place the accused threatened the victim’s neighbours with dire consequences.

Police initiated a case in this connection and pickets have been posted in the village to avoid further deterioration of the situation.

In another incident near Panitras at Bagnan, CPI(M) backed goons torched the house of a Trinamool Congress worker in the wee hours on Tuesday.

Around 25 to 30 CPI(M) backed goons had attacked his house. The house was set on fire after the party’s worker was dragged out and beaten up mercilessly.

In a bid to unleash reign of terror in the area, bombs were hurled outside the house of the gram panchayat pradhan of Trinamool Congress allegedly by CPI(M) workers in Howrah.

The situation was quite similar at Sandeshkhali in North 24-Parganas, CPI(M) backed goons attacked the houses of Trinamool Congress workers in Sheyara village. They beat up several persons including some women. Receiving the information, a large contingent of police was pressed to bring the situation under control.

The accused attacked the village as the residents of that area had cast their votes in favour of Trinamool Congress.

The accused had managed to flee getting prior information that the police van was entering the village.
