Four of a family booked for dowry death

Gautam Buddh Nagar police on Monday booked four persons of a family under sections of dowry death after a 25-year-old woman died of burn injuries at Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital. The incident came to light on Saturday evening when the victim, Nargis, who was married to one Rajuddin at Dankaur six years back, was found with severe burnt injuries at her residence. Her neighbours informed her father Jafaruddin, who hails from Aligarh area, about the incident. Jafaruddin took Nargis to the burnt ward of the Safdarjung hospital. Nargis succumbed to over 90 per cent burn injuries in the hospital on Sunday.

“Following a complaint of the father of the deceased, we have registered a case of dowry death and other relevant sections of the IPC against her husband Rajuddin, brother-in-law Mahmud, sister-in-law Razia and relative Tahir at Dankaur police station. The accused persons are absconding. A manhunt was launched to arrest them,” said a senior police official investigating the case.

According to the complaint of Jafaruddin, he had given a number of gifts during the wedding of Nargis. He alleged that her in-laws were torturing her and demanding dowry since 4-5 years.
