Four killed, over 40 injured in two separate accidents on NH-6

A devastating road accident claimed the life of four persons at Malda’s Habibpur early on Friday. Police said that a private car rammed onto a heavy goods loaded truck which caused the accident.

In another incident, a speeding bus collided with a lorry on National Highway-6 at Uluberia on Friday morning. Al least 40 people were injured after the incident, police said.

In both the cases, police said that the accidents occurred due to the difficulty of driving down the stretch early in morning because of dense fog.

“It was really difficult to see through the fog and move ahead in morning. The private car rammed the truck, which was standing at roadside. The driver, Rana Mondal and other passengers died on the spot,” said a police officer of Malda district police.

Police learnt that the private car was coming from Malda town area. But the investigators are still unaware about the destination of the private car.

The car overturned on roadside with the four people trapped inside

“It was really difficult to move those bodies out from the broken car. We rescued those bodies and rushed to the hospital. But they were declared brought dead,” said a local resident.

In the Uluberia’s incident, the trapped passengers were taken to hospital. “The injuries of the passengers were not serious. The driver and his assistants were admitted in a separate hospital. Their condition is critical,” said a police officer.

The state government’s slogan: ‘Safe drive, Save life’ has made the local residents inspire police, taking stringent actions against traffic rule breakers.

“Police are trying hard and the locals have helped them a lot. But these errant drivers were unruly. They should be punished,” said a local resident.
