Four killed, nine injured in road accidents

Four people were killed and as many as nine of them injured in various road accidents that took place across the state, police said. Two people were killed when a matador collided with a truck at Krishnanagar in Nadia early on Sunday morning. The driver and the helper of the matador died on the spot. 

The traffic was disrupted on the National Highway 34 since morning. Police later reached the spot and removed the vehicles with the help of break down vans. 

The bodies were also removed from the vehicle. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the driver of the matador had fallen asleep and that might have resulted in the accident. The bodies have been sent for the post-mortem.

In a separate incident, a 50-year-old man Fulkumar Mondal, who was an owner of a sweetmeat shop, was killed after being hit a private car. 

The incident happened at Pirgang area under Pukhuria in Malda when a car hit him from behind when the victim was going to the shop. The driver of the vehicle fled from the spot after the accident. Irate mob later set the vehicle on fire and blocked the road. The vehicles were stranded for a while till a huge contingent of police reached the spot and lifted the demonstration. 

In another incident at Balurghat in South 24-Parganas, a biker was knocked down by a truck. The victim Tofajal Mondal (45) a resident of Kumargram was on his motor cycle when a truck on its way to Gangarampur from Balurghat hit him from the opposite direction. He was rushed to the Malda Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead. 

The incident occurred on late Saturday night. Police have arrested the truck driver and also seized the vehicle. The local resident put up a road block on national highway 512 for sometimes. 

In another incident three persons who were travelling in a car injured after the car fell on the captain Bheri near Chingrighata. Police said that the car was at a top speed when it lost its control and fell on the captain Bheri. Police had reached the spot and rescued the injured passengers and took them to the hospital. Police were yet to ascertain the identity of the passengers. 

Around six passengers who were travelling in a trekker were injured after the vehicle lost its control and overturned at Gouripur area in Kaliagang in South Dinajpur. The trekker was going to Radhikapur from Kaliagang.
