Four killed in clash over burning ghat

Four people were killed on Monday in a clash over a disputed land serving as a burning ghat at Malibari in North Dinajpur district, the police said.

The land in the Raiganj police station area was held by the Rajbanshi community, a scheduled caste, of the area for a long time and the tribals had an eye on it, they added.

The clash occurred when tribals early in the morning tried to grab a piece of the land and the Rajbanshis resisted. Two Rajbanshis and two tribals were killed while nine persons were injured in the clash, the police said.
