A group of drunken men stormed into the police station molesting a woman police constable after some of their associates were arrested by the police on charges of flouting traffic rules in an inebriated state.

The hooligans went on rampage ransacking the police station on Sunday night before they were finally arrested by the police.

According to the police, four persons have been arrested for damaging public property and molesting a woman constable when she tried to prevent the drunken men from entering the police station. The accused are identified as Rintu Roy, Bapi Chowdhury, Sonu Chanda and Narayan Das. All of them are local residents, police said.

The trouble originated when police personnel from Ghola police station in North 24-Parganas caught some drunken youths who flouted traffic norms. Police said that three youths came out of a bar in an inebriated state and were riding motorcycle in top speed. When they were asked to stop, they misbehaved with the on-duty police personnel resulting in a hot altercation between the police and the accused. They were taken to the police station following the incident.

As the news of their arrest reached their friends who were still boozing in a nearby bar, they reached the police station. They demanded unconditional release of the accused and staged protest in front of the police station. When a woman police constable asked them to leave the place, they started hurling abusive comments at her. The accused then tried to enter the police station forcibly. When the woman constable tried to oppose them, they molested her and led an attack on the police station.

The other police constable who came to her rescue was also roughed by the accused. Later, more police personnel reached the spot and brought the situation under control and arrested the four accused. Police are investigating if there was involvement of any other accused in the incident.
